The Cedar Rapids Municipal Band, a professional concert band that presents 19 summer concerts in Cedar Rapids parks, will be holding its annual spring auditions on Friday, March 27th and Saturday, March 28th in the Cedar Rapids Washington High School Band Room.

One-season openings are known for: Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion. Multiple-season openings are known for: Clarinet, Bassoon, Tuba, and Percussion. Other instrument openings are possible and substitutes are needed on all instruments, particularly Oboe and French Horn this year.

A typical concert week consists of a Monday evening rehearsal and Wednesday and Sunday evening concerts. This season, there is one atypical concert week with a Saturday morning concert included in the schedule.

More audition information can be found by e-mailing Scott Haney at business@crmuniband.org , or by calling or texting Scott at 319-431-9649.

We encourage all qualified musicians to apply. To sign up for an audition, please e-mail, call, or text Scott Haney and leave a message indicating the following:

 1. The name of the person auditioning
 2. The musician’s e-mail address and/or phone number
 3. The instrument(s) the musician will play
 4. If auditioning on more that one instrument, whether you want the auditions back-to-back or with a break in between.

Audition Dates and Times:
Friday, March 27th 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Saturday, March 28th 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Contact Scott Haney as needed regarding schedule conflicts.

In-person signup will begin at 6:00 PM on March 27th and at 12:30 PM on March 28th.

Auditions will be held in first-response order: those who called in advance will be auditioned first; everyone else will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Musicians will be evaluated primarily on sight-reading ability, but all are welcome to play an excerpt of one’s own choice (not to exceed 60 seconds) to warm up and get comfortable. The passage may be from a solo, etude, or piece of band music.

Please bring along a brief resume.
