A native of Cedar Rapids, Larry Klima boasts to be the "most-tenured" member of the CRMB. Larry began playing clarinet in 4th grade, and was fortunate to have had Roland Maehlmann as his band director at Franklin High School. In 1951, Larry began his CRMB career, and except for 2 years in the military, Larry has not missed a single playing season in 60 years! From 1960 to present, Larry has also been in charge of drayage (equipment management) for the band. Larry arrives early for every concert with the large CRMB trailer. Larry retired from Rockwell-Collins in 1992, but has not slowed down in any respect. Larry's excellent sax and clarinet abilities can be heard in the: El Kahir Shrine Band, Iowa Military Veteran's Band, Amana Die Tiefen Keller Kinder Band, Czech Heritage Band, Mt. Vernon Community Band, Rockwell-Collins Concert Band, Starduster's Dance Band, and most importantly the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band! Obviously Larry enjoys playing all types of music, and he encourages everyone in the Cedar Rapids area to join in the fun by attending the Municipal Band concerts this summer on Wednesday and Sunday evenings through the first week of August. Larry is a living example that the joy of music can last a lifetime! |
