Cedar Rapids Municipal Band - Cedar Rapids Iowa

hillsJared Hills graduated from the University of Iowa on August 12, 1959 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Iowa, he played in the Iowa Marching Band and went to the Rose Bowl in January, 1957. Jared married Carol Tangen on August 23, 1959, and they will celebrate their 52nd anniversary this fall. On September 1, 1959 Jared began working at Divine Engineering, a manufacturer of chain and flight drag conveyors known as DIVINALATORS and DIVINAFLOWS, used extensively in the grain processing industry all over the world. Howard Divine was the founder of the company and Jared has been president and owner since his death in 1973. Jared and Carol have been blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the world, combining business with pleasure. They have a son, a daughter, and 5 grandchildren. Their son and son-in-law both work with Jared at Divine Engineering. Jared says, “I am still working because I enjoy it, but the business would be in excellent hands if I were to drop out of the picture. I am trying to cut back and do take time off whenever I want.” Jared has been playing tuba in the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band the past 43 years and has served on the band commission the past 7 years. He also plays in occasional small groups as time allows, including the Heavy Metal Tuba Band! Jared enjoys music events, plays, singing in the Asbury Methodist Church choir, tennis, wood-working, and skiing with the “kids” and grandchildren. He also enjoys touring with MotorIoway in his ’49 Ford! About the CRMB, Jared says, “I feel very privileged to play in this excellent band. It is not only a great pleasure for me but also a wonderful free event for the families in the Cedar Rapids area to attend, relax, and maybe even bring a picnic.”
